Natural wood has a sensitive surface. Paint workers often have to use NC primer or putty primers to sweep and fill wood. However, this method has many shortcomings in terms of filling and adhesion, especially for woods with deep pores such as ironwood, padouk, oak, lauan, vatica odorata, etc. G8 filler putty is an effective and optimal solution to overcome these shortcomings.
1. Why should you choose G8 filler putty?
The ancients said: "3 points of carpentry, 7 points of paint". This shows the importance of wood surface treatment. If the base layer is not treated well, no matter how good the paint is, how high the painting technique is, the finishing will fail.
The main purpose of wood surface treatment is to get a smooth, even, and beautiful wood grain surface. The condition of the wood surface not only affects the appearance of the paint film, but also affects the aesthetics and durability of the paint film.
Using the G8 filler putty is one of the best methods for treating wood surfaces, with its 3 in 1 feature:
· Fill wood pores (especially deep-pore natural wood)
· Minimize the number of primers in surface treatment
· Create a durable base color layer, easy to trim color
2. G8 filler putty vs. other filling methods
2.1. Filling with NC primer
To fill wood pores, many workers and workshops have a habit of using quick-drying paints and primers such as shellac or NC, then sanding them thoroughly.
However, conventional NC primer only achieves a filling level of 5 to 10 µm, with poor adhesion and is easy to peel off. For natural wood with deep pores, the NC primer is less effective. Therefore, for wood with deep pores, using G8 filler putty (filling level up to 60-80 m) is a suitable and cost-effective solution.
Deep wood pores are not filled, and high humidity easily causes air bubbles (surface bubbles)
2.2. Filling pores with powdered liners and putty
Filling pores with powdered liner and putty is usually a method of mixing filler powder, flexible stone powder with NC primer, NC primer with hard PU, a mixture of PU primer (PU hard mixing) and filler powder, or sawdust mixed with milk glue, 502, etc.
However, with this method, the filling density is only about 30 - 50 µm with poor adhesion, porous surface and easy to absorb moisture, easy to peel off. In addition, this application method also requires workers to have a skilled technique, and more materials are needed for deep wood pores.
2.3. G8 filler putty
G8 putty is the most common product today with the ability to quickly fill wood pores (natural wood with deep pores), shorten application stages, application time, and integrate features as a stain layer to create the first background color for wood.
· The filler of G8 putty reaches 60 – 80 µm, equivalent to 2 conventional PU primers.
· Quick-drying: smoothed out after 30 minutes.
· Easy to operate and use, and does not require skilled techniques.
· An effective alternative to the methods of coverage with NC primers or powdered primers or putty.
· Make the color trimming process shorter and easier.
